It was twilight when Asha finally had the courage to get out of the cramped room where she had been stuck for the past couple of hours with the other girls. They were getting readied for the classical dance recital that evening. Having gone through the unpleasant experience of getting the make-up done, along with the tight hairdo decorated with jasmine flowers, she decided that a short break would be a well-deserved.
It was refreshingly cool and therefore, nice being outside. A few small and sparsely leaved trees swayed lightly in the soft wind, standing beside humble hutments. The uncomfortable heat of the day had almost subsided. A cool breeze embraced her frame, and she decided to sit down against a round pillar of the small building they had been in.
As she gazed up the evening sky, she noticed something very interesting. The feeling of just being interested in something itself immediately brought some relief to her. So far in the journey, she had felt only boredom. Never understanding completely the relevance of learning a classical dance form and only because her mother had insisted, was nothing short of a disappointing experience. Having to travel all the way to this village somewhere in the south of India, where she had to perform in front of a simple and rural audience was perplexing to say the least. So the sight piqued her…
